Earth from Above book

Earth from Above, Third Edition by Yann Arthus-Bertrand (Author). The results of a five-12 months airborne odyssey across 5 continents and 60 nations, Earth from Above is essentially the most revealing and spectacular portrait of our world ever created. From a heart-formed mangrove forest in New Caledonia to a flock of crimson ibises in Venezuela, from a caravan of camels in Mauritania to Mt. Everest and Mammoth Hot Springs, famend aerial photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand presents placing colour photographs that put our dwelling planet in an entire new perspective. Produced underneath the sponsorship of UNESCO, the book can be a documentary file of the state of the world's fragile environment.

This vibrant re-creation of the internationally acclaimed authentic features an up to date design and nearly 60 gorgeous new photographs. All new captions and the addition of authoritative new texts by specialists in varied environmental fields illuminate Arthus-Bertand's monumental achievement.

It's an e-book of breathtaking aerial views from everywhere in the world. It's intended to be a photographic report of the globe's status within the millenium. This can be a stunning espresso table e-book (although it is pretty massive and heavy). It contains map references for each of the pictures, in addition to a textual account of the photograph, its location, the folks in it, etc. If Pictures is your ardour, you'll love this book!

This can be a fantastic ebook, one you can unfold in front of yourself and a cherished one (it's a large, heavy tome). The captions do have a tendency at occasions to "leap" to moralizing remarks about issues ecological, however that's fine with me, particularly given the miserable political attitudes towards conservation over the previous few years. Anyone who can nudge public opinion again to concern for the environment is doing an actual service. A couple of minor complaints about the guide, although: 1. Those that have seen the outside exhibition of those images in London or Paris will discover the versions here will not be fairly as tight or vibrant. 2. The spreading of the pictures throughout two pages breaks lots of the powerful views down the middle. (I'm wondering if the 24-hour format is sure otherwise, as it seems on the Amazon site.) 3. Perhaps essentially the most placing image, one of the nice dromedary caravan photos (P. 173) seems only on the caption flap in miniature form. The massive image to which it supposedly refers (pp. 178-79) has been changed by a barely totally different, and less powerful, image (cropped otherwise and with darker shadows obscuring the surreal Z-sample of the dune-and-dromedary shadow). But these are petty objections. A wonderful guide for fans of photography and nature, and an amazing gift.
