Cacti and Succulents for Cold Climates: 274 Outstanding Species for Challenging Conditions by Leo J. Chance (Author). There are numerous causes to grow cacti and different succulents-they're drought-tolerant, low-maintenance, and they look great. However what about hardiness? For many who thought that these spectacular vegetation have been only for gardens in California and the Southwest, guess once more-lots of are totally chilly-hardy and could be grown outdoors from New England to British Columbia, Wisconsin to Texas.

Cacti and Succulents for Cold Climates is full of inspirational portraits of 274 plants that can be used to create drought-tolerant gardens, as well as ideas from regional experts who've mastered the art of growing cacti in parts of the nation not often associated with excessive temperatures or a scarcity of water. Expert Leo Likelihood describes how one can put together planting beds, easy methods to get crops effectively established, learn how to handle cacti during planting, how to shield plants from chilly winters, and when and the way a lot of water.

A truly wonderful compilation of chilly hardy cacti and succulents. I used to be bitten by the cold hardy cactus bug 5 years ago and that is the best book I've yet seen on the subject. Worth every penny. Residing in Michigan, I only took exception to his suggestion for two inches of gravel mulch for a wet climate (I find that half an inch allows my sandy soil to dry sooner) however that was it. The images are glorious, the breadth of species is inspiring, particularly some of the South American cacti, and the tradition requirements are very informative. I can confidently say that anybody occupied with growing cacti in a chilly local weather won't be disillusioned in this book.

The e book is very informative and helpful. I actually favored that the cactus and succulent companion vegetation have been included as well.

The e-book includes high quality pictures of widespread and rare Genus and species of cold hardy desert plants. It's rife with nicely codified particulars of propagation from seed and cuttings, of progress media and transplanting, and maintaining cacti and succulents in robust desert climates with extremes in heat and cold. Sources of frequent and rare species are included. If you wish to groom a cactus garden with success through the rugged winters, you'll enormously appreciate this book.

An amazing reference guide for those curious about cold weather cactus gardening. I preferred his recommendations for companion plants, plus nice pictures. A should have for us cacti lovers.
